I believe in Earth-Angels. My life has been a series of connect-the-dots and, when I listen and put my trust in
God, his Angels guide me from one "dot" to the next--with ultimate success. In the Book, I share my Angels---so easy for others to overlook but, in my life--- impossible to forget:
On the last day of school, My fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Mabel Moore, placed the Geography Book in my hands. At the time, I was only nine
years old, yet my wise teacher recognized the seriousness of my dream. She encouraged me with her challenge: “Grow up, finish school, then go to China and travel The Great Wall. Find all the answers to all the questions I couldn’t answer for you;
discover the many secrets hidden in The Wall. It will be your responsibility to share your findings with the World.” As if anointed to be the architect of my fate, Ms. Moore instructed me to keep believing in myself, and to never allow anyone to discourage
Forty years later, when the complicated plans were
finalized and I was just two weeks away from starting the first-ever journey of The Great Wall of China--- I reunited with Ms. Moore in a welfare nursing home. Reduced to a wheelchair, barely able to move, she responded to my voice by slowly raising her head,
looking in my direction and whispering... “Oh, Sally, a nurse told me you have permission to go to China and travel the Great Wall. Finally, you'll be able to realize your dream. Just remember I’ll be with you-- each step of the way.” I hugged
the fragile body of my long-ago teacher. Our goodbyes were tearful but I promised to call her when I finished my journey.
Seven months later, after successfully-completing ALL THE WALL (the official name of my journey) I returned to Beijing. I could hardly wait to call Ms. Moore and share the news of my Great Wall adventure. The
nursing home receptionist, recognizing my voice, placed me on hold--and I feared the worst.
The next voice I heard was that of the facility’s
director. With deep sadness, I learned my inspiring fourth-grade teacher had “slipped away” in her sleep. It was no surprise to learn that she died the exact day I completed my Great Wall Adventure. Inside, I felt a satisfying peace. Ms. Moore
didn’t need to hear about my journey of China’s Great Wall. Faithful to her promise, she had been with me--- each step of the way.
