Dec. 13, 2020

Before buying the large and beautiful condominium in my home town of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, I learned it was located in a flood zone.  After checking with local flood experts, I learned it had only “taken” a few inches of water-- one time—and, even then, it only left some wet areas around the front door. City officials assured me that flood waters were kept “in check” after the city installed Flood Gates. These modern Gates automatically closed each time storms threatened and...whenever rising waters were eminent.

I purchased the elegant structure with confidence. I furnished it with my treasures--- antiques and pretties of which most---were items I’d lovingly restored.  Undoubtedl, my most valuable possession was my handmade Steinway Grand Piano.  Yes my piano was my one true love. I'd purchased the piano from a soldier who’d been called back to active duty.  He’d been forced to sell his piano and I'd been assigned as the Steinway’s new owner.

Yes, I’ve always treated my belongings with love, respect, and gentle kindness and…if I say so myself…my treasures helped make my new condo---a stunning “show place”.Months later, I announced my intent to run for Mayor of my hometown---on the Republican ticket.

It was only after my tires were cut, my car was “keyed” on both sides, and the car’s vinyl top was sliced in multiple places….that I realized just how low-down and dirty political races can be---when you’re running against a Democrat.

It didn't take long before I became the Democrats target of hate and their number-one-enemy. I was disgusted with their lies and accusations...but beyond-shocked when my ex-husband and his "new" wife... plus all his family....joined The Enemy to lie and publically-display their hate me. Soon, I had more to worry about than just running for Mayor.

When heavy rains caused flooding in the low-lying areas of the town and the creek near my condo continued to rise above its banks… I watched in horror as water began lapping at the front and back doors of my condominium!

Yes, I was helpless as the water seeped, then poured, in my home.  Frantic, I tried to throw everything higher--- on top of dressers, shelves, beds, and cabinets but---I was only one person against the fast-rising waters.  When the rain stopped and the water reached its desired level, I was devastated. Just watching the waves rise and fall within inches of my piano’s keyboard made me sick.

I had flood insurance but, like most insurance, it only covered the bare necessities.  Insurance doesn’t cover the days, weeks, months, of cleanup…the personal losses, inconveniences, anguish, and frightening lively black snakes!

Everything in bottom drawers, lower shelves/ cabinets, was ruined.  Chairs and sofas had to be rebuilt and re-upholstered.  My nearly-new mattresses were soggy, completely ruined. All my appliances were useless, while floors and floor coverings, wallpaper, door frames, closet doors, even plumbing had to be totally replaced.

Ten days after the flood, I received an anonymous letter in the mail. The letter was well-written and I had every reason to believe the truthfulness of the information inside.  The writer's home, just across the creek from my condo,  had also flooded and he’d done some private investigating. He was so angry he went "undercover" to discover the truth.  He paid a city official to tell him WHY, after living in his house near the creek for almost forty years, his house recently flooded for the first time.  The writer of the unsigned letter wanted answers and he was well-aware that money "talks".

The city official admitted the current Democratic Mayor had ordered the Flood Gates “de-activated” during the heavy rain storm because, in the Mayor's words:  “It’s about time for Sally Miller to be "tested".”Let’s see how well she swims-- inside her condo”!!!!!

The Democrat Candidate ..who became just- another Democrat Mayor...was uneducated, unprofessional, unknown, and had NOTHING to offer Pine Bluff. So...she stayed "in hiding" during the race.. She refused to debate me or answer any questions. The day of the election... I watched endless busloads of blacks dropped-off at key polling places...many proudly-waving a new twenty dollar bill...their "reward" for voting Democrat.
