Every morning, regardless of the weather, Cubby and I drive to the DeSoto Spillway to either hike the Spillway Trail or one of the trails nearby.   It’s a treat for both of us.

One of the trails is extremely isolated and requires more “sure-footedness” than the others.  In our almost two years of hiking that particular trail, we’ve never encountered another person. In fact, the trail seems so “lonely and deserted” …..I try to keep us moving in another direction.

Yesterday, because of Holiday visitors and family members, there appeared to be more trail activity than usual so I decided Cubby and I would do a quick hike on the “abandoned” trail.  As we were climbing the long hill covered in tangles of vines and large rocks, I looked to my right to make sure Cubby was close by and that’s when ….I saw it.

There….at the foot of a very-large Pine Tree…right-next to the overgrown path…was a medium-size rock.  I walked over to get a closer look and immediately realized----- SOMEONE HAD PAINTED A DEER ON THE ROCK’S SURFACE!

The rock was uncomfortably-heavy for one hand so I picked it up with both hands.  The rock’s backside was dirty…like it had been lying on the ground for quite some time.  The painting had no signature; no initials. Looking around…there was no indication that the rock had been placed in this particular spot for a purpose. I searched the area for more painted rocks.  Could this area serve as an outdoor Art Studio for Artists? I combed the area for any signs of recent activity but all I found was falling and decaying trees, multitudes of dead branches, bushels of leaves and overgrown brush, many rocks but… no more painted rocks.

Convinced that the Rock had an underlying meaning meant “just for me”…..I urged Cubby to finish our hike so we could get the weighty- rock back to our car.

TWO YEARS of DEER CHRISTMASES! I now have a “Forever Deer” inside and my little White-Tailed Deer outside. I thank nature for providing my memorable Christmas Presents. I could never ask for more wonderful gifts.

Lol, I loved reading this story! As a female that dated a couple men with Harleys, I totally understand and met Harley Guy myself, many times over!
I hope you get your 3wheels someday soon!
