A few years after moving to Atlanta, I crossed paths with a handsome man wearing an American Airlines uniform. Although he volunteered to fit me with shoes in the Atlanta Department Store, he clearly wasn’t a shoe salesman.
When I sat down to try on shoes, the uniformed man took the empty seat next to me and, holding out his hand, introduced himself as Marshall, a pilot for American Airlines. Removing my shoes, I glanced at my seat mate, noting how he was studying my feet. Glancing in the long mirror at the sale shoes I was considering buying, I listened to the pilot's comments: “Your feet are sexy and slender;” “you have glamourous ankles”, and “I’m in love with how your high arches look in those heels.”
Raised in the South, I probably read “Gone With The Wind” more than six times. Each time it sickened me to see Scarlett, such a beautiful and strong woman, so determined to capturing Ashley--- an insipidly weak and passive man. I never liked weak men yet somehow, like bird dogs in heat, they seemed to find me.
Perhaps, in the beginning, I was flattered by all the attention but soon--- I’d had enough of his submissive behavior and unnatural comments. Nervous, I put on my own shoes, muttered something about another appointment, and walked away. Normally, I would be attracted to a man in uniform but not this time and not this man.
Shortly after moving back to Little Rock in the early-eighties, I received a phone call from a young man expressing his desire to be my slave. He described how I needed to spank him because he’s been a very bad boy. Speechless, I listened to him talk about how he wanted to get on all fours, like a dog, and have me sit on him. Intrigued, I agreed to meet him for lunch.
The nice-looking man, wearing a fashionable, expensive suit, appeared quite manly. I soon learned he was 25 years younger than me. When I asked
his profession, he handed me a business card listing him as a stockbroker with a well-known company. After lunch, my curiosity now satisfied, I explained to the young man that I had no interest in participating in his fantasies. His offer of money, though
tempting, would only make me feel like a prostitute. Trust me....It’s Hell to maintain integrity when money is scarce.
Every day, I continued my commitment to stay in shape by running. My favorite place to run was the nature trail that paralleled the Arkansas river. One summer, I began getting mysterious calls
from a man who had, apparently, been following me during my runs. The mysterious caller could describe the various items I wore and the exact time of day I went running. I listened as he described how he wanted me to stand on his chest,
kick him, urinate on him, and strangle his neck between my “powerful and long legs.”
I taped three of his very explicit phone calls then played the tapes for the Little
Rock police department. They quickly urged me to arrange a meeting with the mysterious caller. The chief of police assured me I wouldn't be alone, that special officers in an unmarked car would follow me to the meeting spot. Knowing
the mystery man could be dangerous, I felt relieved that the police would be nearby to arrest my caller. I was more-than-ready for the stressful phone calls to end.
Soon after I arrived at the designated meeting spot, the mystery man pulled up in a late-model Mercedes convertible, got out, and walked toward my car. Without so much as a glance inside, he opened the door and climbed in. Immediately, six policemen, guns
pulled, surrounded my car and took control.
I couldn’t have been more shocked when I looked into the face of my mysterious caller. I recognized him… in fact, I knew his wife. He was a wealthy businessman....who was married to another Miss Arkansas.
